LOCATOR IS A LOCATION-BASED EXPERIENCE APP
to share your impressions of new locations you've discovered.
You can browse, search, organize, like, and save Locations,
and share and chat with other users.
Locator's platform makes it possible to quickly find Locations you're looking for when traveling to a new city, as well as to discover new places in your own city or plan a fun evening with friends. This idea and more lies behind Locator.
All the content you will see on the platform is generated by users, but can also be contributed from promoters or operators to promote a service, event, or other special offers.
Locator focuses on emotion instead of boring information. Thats what makes Locator stand out from all other location-based apps.
Locator is a real project of the University of Konstanz, the faculties of computer science and communication design. In the inter-disciplinary exchange, a community platform for iOS and Android.
Our team consists of two Professors, six UX and Marketing Designer students and eight front- and backend developer students.
I was strongly involved in the UX and Marketing Designer group.
What we are doing all day:
Discussing, experimenting, developing ideas, rejecting them, starting from the beginning, programming, talking on the phone, writing, reading, fighting, reconciling and becoming friends again, dancing on the table, crying under the table, drinking beer and eating Pizza, occasionally sleeping, and further developing, designing, programming.
A project that starts without clear goals is a project that's destined to fail. This project had one simple goal:
Emotion before Information
Our long term goal was to establish Locator as the must-have mobile phone app for locations.
Our target group basically consist two different groups of people:
The first group of people consists, young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who mainly "consume" the content and are interested in events, traveling, gastronomy and interesting locations.
The second group consists of people who can use our platform to promote events, locations, etc. for their own marketing purposes. For the most part, these people are between the ages of 30 and 60 years and are gastronomy operators or promoters.
It is important for us to understand our users needs and problems to make sure we are building the right thing and to create a solid structural base for our project.
We were very fortunate to have our workspace at the University Campus to have thousands of students around us who we could interviewed and ask them to test our App.
We cooperated with “StrandBar” a Bar next to our Campus and “Campus Festival” who organized a huge festival in our city.
That was really helpful to see AND experience the needs of people who want to use our Platform for Marketing purpose.
The goal for the usability our product is:
- Simple and intuitive operation to ensure our product feels right to use.
- Create a personality and recognizable brand with a delicious interface.
- Use animation to add life to the product and make the user smile.
